Readout of Secretary-General’s meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Jawad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Iran. They discussed Iran's growing cooperation with the international community on a host of issues, including the nuclear file, as well the role Iran could play in promoting a political solution to the conflict in Syria. The Secretary-General also welcomed the release yesterday by the Iranian Government of a number of political prisoners, which include the human rights lawyer Ms. Nasreen Sotoudeh as well as a number of women’s rights activists, political activists and journalists. He expressed hope that the Government will continue to take steps to fulfill the promises made by President Rouhani during his recent election campaign. New York, 19 September 2013
