Canadian Journalists for Free Expression ( CJFE ) posted this about Ganji in their monthly bulletin :
Akbar Ganji – Iran
After six years of imprisonment and two hunger strikes in Tehran’s Evin prison, 2000 International Press Freedom Award winner Akbar Ganji has been released. Ganji was arrested in 1999 for writing a series of articles connecting high-level Iranian officials to the murders of several intellectuals. Before he was imprisoned, he worked as an investigative journalist for several reformist papers. We hope that Akbar Ganji will finally have the chance to accept his award in person now that he is free.
