News in brief: Gooya newsonline reporting from the site of Emrooz:
An open letter of several journalists and managing editors from "ILNA" who have lost or resigned from their job to the president of the "Association of Syndicate journalists of Iran".
In the letter they have asked from the association to meddle into their case .On Monday March 3,2006 the board of director of ILNA ( Iran's Labour News Agency ) through its secretary annouced that due to financial difficulties the agency is going to reduce its personnel from 100 people to 57 people and as a result they have called to 15 of their personnel not to come to work , therefore this is the first step of eleminating its forces.
On the reason why they haven't spoke about this issue earlier, they indicated that they did not wanted to ruin the image of the agency, but as time past the board and the general manager on March 16 reported that the positions that have effected were "unnecessary" and "unimportant" , while everyone knows that the expelled personnels are the most experienced in the field of newspapers and as well by dismissing them they have not only violated their rights but also ruined their personalities.
The expelled personnel demanded from the association to investigate the situation and to look into their rights.
ILNA has been active for more than three years. In the letter they have indicated that ; The salary of the journalists were only 150,000 Tuman (less than 200 dollar) and many of its editors were recieving only 160,000 tuman. What is unfortunate and painful is that the general managers of this agency are members of the labour union ( Khaneh Kargar) and are supposed to defend the rights of labourers. It is needed to say that the majority of the journalists and reporters working in this agency are not insured. ...... and the personnel that have lost their jobs are the most devoted journalists by doing hard work ...... it is unfair that the board will order to its secretary to call one by one and tell them not to come to work, just like that , it is immoral , this is unfair , without even thanking them for their dedication and services .They are planning to lay off 40 people and they are doing it step by step.
