The U.N. General Assembly on Monday passed an annual resolution condemning alleged human rights abuses in Iran with a record number of votes in support.
The assembly also passed resolutions condemning human rights in North Korea and Myanmar. All received record high backing.
The Iran vote came only three days after the General Assembly condemned an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington -- a plot which the United States accuses Iran of masterminding.
The 193-member assembly passed the resolution condemning "torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" by Iranian authorities with 86 votes in favor, six more than last year, 32 against, down eight from 2010, and 59 abstentions.
The resolution, proposed by Canada, condemned "flogging and amputations" carried out in Iran and deplored a "dramatic increase" in the use of the death penalty, particularly against minors. Many human rights groups say events have deteriorated in Iran over the past year.
Iranian government representative, Mohammad Javad Larijani, an advisor to the country's supreme leader, called the resolution "substantially unfounded and intentionally malicious" in a speech to the General Assembly's human rights committee.
Syria, which faces a special human rights vote on Tuesday over its deadly crackdown on opposition protests, spoke out strongly for its Iranian ally.
The North Korea vote was passed with 112 votes in favor, 16 against and 55 abstentions. On Myanmar the vote was 98 in favor, 25 against with 63 abstentions.
The assembly raised "very serious concern" over the "torture" and "inhuman conditions of detention, public executions, extra judicial and arbitrary detention" in North Korea.
It also condemned the "existence of a large number of prison camps and the extensive use of forced labor."
The Myanmar resolution welcomed recent talks between democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the military-dominated government, the release of some political prisoners and other changes over the past year.
But the General Assembly said there were still "systematic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms."
It highlighted "arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, rape and other forms of sexual violence, torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment." It also raised concerns about the treatment of ethnic minorities such as the Karen people.
Western nations, which have sanctions against Myanmar, have sought to encourage the tentative reforms started by the government. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to hold talks in Myanmar next month.
Myanmar's U.N. ambassador U Than Swe highlighted the government's efforts towards "building a flourishing, democratic society."
"We do deserve warm, welcome, kind understanding and sincere encouragements of the international community rather than unconstructive approach by adopting such resolutions," he told the assembly.
In a statement, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague acknowledged the changes in Myanmar, but said "human rights abuses continue, especially in ethnic areas, and the level of support for this resolution shows once again that the international community has not forgotten the people" of Myanmar.
"The U.N. General Assembly passed these three resolutions by a record majority today, and I welcome the strong signal that sends," Hague said.

October 20, 2011-Iran Slams UN Human Rights Report

Iran has slammed a report from a United Nations investigator that cites a "dramatic increase" in executions in Tehran along with other alleged human rights abuses.U.N. special investigator Ahmed Shaheed issued an interim report on Wednesday that says more than 200 officially announced executions have taken place in Iran so far this year. He also accused Iranian authorities of conducting more than 300 secret executions at the Vakilabad prison in 2010.Additionally, Shaheed said Iran has been detaining political dissidents for prolonged periods and persecuting religious and ethnic minorities.Iranian judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani says Shaheed's report is "full of lies" and reflects the "hostile views" of exiled Iranian dissidents and "nothing more." He also accused the U.S. of supporting terrorist operations against Iran and said he had ordered the country's state prosecutor to gather evidence proving U.S. crimes in Iran and elsewhere.Shaheed's findings were based largely on interviews with victims of state-sponsored abuse because Tehran has refused to allow him into the country.Wednesday, the U.S. urged the international community to "redouble its condemnation" of Iran for the alleged crimes. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the report shows Iran is continuing a "brutal repression" of its citizens. He called on Iran to give Shaheed immediate access to the country. The U.N. Human Rights Council named Shaheed as a Special Rapporteur on Iran in March.

This regime created terror and tyrannical regime in Iran. Among so many injustices one very close to you is your Iranian Sunni brothers who were asked not to hold their own "Eid Feter" festivity. They banned your sunni brothers from gathering into their mosque and pray. Instead they force them to join with other moslems including Shiit moslem and pray under khamenei's leadership in Eid Feter. As a result of this , many Kurdish representative from various Kurdistan city's in the parliament asked Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the "election coup president" to mediate and let the Suuni's communities residing in the western region of Tehran( Sadeghieh) to gather in their own mosque and celeberate the "Eide Feter'. This is one of the basic violation of the rights of Sunni Moslems.

Dr. Abdolkarim Lahiji: Mr. Musavi and Karoubi together with their wives were " forcefully kidnapped ".

Arash Eghbali-Mihan

The case file of a " kidnapping " after 150 days !

Dr. Abdolkarim Lahiji Vice president of the International Federation of Human Rights League (FIDH)& President of the Association of Human Rights Defenders in Iran on speaking with Mihan website ( In Paris) called the situation of Musavi and Karoubi and their wives as "kidnapping" by the Islamic Republic in Iran. Musavi and Karoubi were two presidential candidates in June 2009. Its been five months since they were silenced by the regime and it is believed they are under house arrest. The Iranian who have voted for these two candidates have no news about their candidates and the relation between them and public were cut off by regime. People believe Mr. Musavi was the winner in the election but regime rigged the election and called Ahmadinejad as the winner . As a result of this outcome People poured into the streets and protested against the result.

"Because none of the officials formally confirmed the arrest of Mr. Musavi and Mr. Karoubi ,legally this can be called " forcefull kidnapping" , and because of this situation, we are going to follow up the files of these persons in a committee which observe the execution of a convention in the United Nation on people who have been forcefully disappeared.", Said Mr. Lahiji .

According to Dr. Lahiji, "it has been stressed in the constitution of the Islamic Republic that; within 24 hours the reasons for accusation must be explained to the accused , which in this case it did not happen. If regime officials say ,they are under surveilance ,being under surveilance is also a legal action. It should become clear at what time,by which judge and on what charges , this judicial decision was made."

Earlier Dr. Lahiji told to DW radio that ; "one week after their disappearance we have informed the situation to this commitee and told them about their identities and last residence and other information. We know our complaint has been send to Islamic Republic but until now there is no response to the complaint."

Mohammad Javad Larijani the head of human rights in the judiciary power of the Islamic regime is attending in 65th UN general assembly in NY!

IRAN WATCH CANADA:

Mr. Mohammad Javad Larijani in speaking to ISNA news agency pointed out that:
"human rights is completely a cultural issue of each country and since Islam and moslem countries have high number in population, they have to have greater role in international human rights decision making".
Link:http://news.gooya.com/politics/archives/2010/11/113455.php

First of all, human rights should and must be separated from faith , ideology and politics. What Mr. Larijani is suggesting is a political abuse from the issue of human rights. Human rights is beyond politics and faith and international border.
Human rights is a humane issue and each society in the world disregard of their faith and ideology or politics must look it as an international human norms. Human rights charter is the experience of human societies which was achieved and developed during centuries of trial and errors of human generation and society.

International human socities is a global village and therefore human rights violation in one country will effect other countries and countries have responsibility to monitor the violation of human rights in their societies. Human rights is the the issue of all countries and as a member of UN and UN as their organization must play bigger role on human rights and punish the members which violate the human rights of their citizens.

What Mr. Larijani is suggesting is, in the future world will have divided human rights norms which can be derived from religiouse ,culture or faith . Like Budhism, Islam or Bahai and christianity will have their own understanding and philosophy of human rights.

This idea will divide the world human society more. Islamic regime in Iran and its political strategy makers are trying to create Islamic human rights or "Sharia" law applicable in all moslem countries and therefore to have freedom to do whatever they understand instead of upgrading their understanding of human rights to international norms.

Mr. Larijani suggests, the world to lower its standard and understanding of human rights as to the level of Islamic regime in Iran and UN members will have different understanding of human rights instead of one philosophy and implementation on human rights in the world based on UN human rights charter.
Mr. Larijani must allow other moslem like reformists in Iran who have different view from the official view, also to come to the UN and say their openion. Obviousely Mr. Larijani's human rights is a political one and is the official government views. Why not letting the Iranian NGO to participate.

The regime in Iran and its delegate is diverting the UN human rights council from its record ,instead the UN must make a presentation from the evidence of violation of human rights during last 6 years and request Mr. Larijani to comment on that.

What Mr. Larijani thinks about the human rights record in Iran?

Regime in Iran trys to silence human rights lawyers !

Who else can question the Islamic judiciary system in Iran? If it wasn't these brave human rights lawyers then who could explain legal questions to public? But regime is trying to silence these lawyers.

According to news, On Saturday Oct. 30 ,2010, division number 15 -court of revolution sentenced Mohammad Seifzadeh the human rights lawyer to 9 years imprisonment and he has been banned from professional practice for 10 years. He was charged based on " activities against national security" for creating the Association of Human Rights Defenders in Iran !?

Shirin Ebadi Iranian lawyer and the Noble Peace Prize winner who live in exile in a joint communique demanded the Islamic Republic regime judiciary power to end its illegal activities against lawyers. She said : These lawyers are being imprisoned only because they have defended the human rights and their clients.

Mohammad Ali Dadkhah and Abdolfatah Soltani are two other human rights lawyers who will face the same charges if UN human rights council won''t do anything.

So far Abdolkarim Lahiji Iranian lawyer and currently vice president of FIDH , Shirin Ebadi, Mohammad Mostafaei and many other Iranian lawyers left Iran because of persecution and live in exile.

Last week we read news about Ms. Nasrin Sotudeh another brave Iranian human rights lawyer who went on hunger strike inside prison and currently serve unjust sentencing.

Mr. Mohammad Oliaeifard is another human rights lawyer who is currently serving his one year prison sentence because of defending his clients rights.

All these are happening and the head of judiciary power Mr. Mohammad Sadegh Larijani is silence and live his comfortable life and no one can question him, well because , less human rights lawyers means less questioning the system and eventually less headache for him.

The First Declaration of Human Rights

Author: Dr. Darius Jahanian

One of the significant events in ancient history is the conquest of Babylon by the Persian king, Cyrus the Great.
On October 4th, 539 BC, the Persian Army entered the city of Babylon, which was then the capital of the Babylonian state (in central Iraq). This was a bloodless campaign and no prisoners were taken. Later, on November 9th, King Cyrus of Persia visited the city. Babylonian history tells us that Cyrus was greeted by the people, who spread a pathway of green twigs before him as a sign of honor and peace (sulmu). Cyrus greeted all Babylonians in peace and brought peace to their city.
On this great event, Cyrus issued a declaration, inscribed on a clay barrel known as Cyrus's inscription cylinder. It was discovered in 1879 by Hormoz Rassam in Babylon and today is kept in the British Museum. Many historians have reviewed it as the first declaration of human rights.
The Babylonian annals, as well as the first section of the Cyrus' inscription, shed light on the religiopolitical plight that had angered the people of Babylon and why they invited Cyrus's military campaign. Evidently, the Babyloninan king, Nabonidus, eliminated the festival of the new year and Nebo (one of the gods) was not brought into the city, and Bel (another god) was not taken in the procession of the festival. Also, the worship of Marduk, the king of the gods, was changed to an abomination and Nabonidus tormented the inhabitants with unbelievable oppression and forced labor. The sanctuaries of all their settlements were in ruins and the inhabitants of Sumer and Akkad had become like the living dead. Marduk, the king of the gods, scanned and searched for a righteous ruler, finally coming upon Cyrus's good deeds and his upright mind and ordered him to march against the City of Babylon. The angry inhabitants of Akkad had revolted but were massacred by Nabonidus, who, upon his return to Babylon, was arrested, but nevertheless was treated with respect. When Nabonidus died in the year following, Cyrus participated in the national mourning time that was proclaimed for him. The gods of Akkad were then returned to their sacred cities. All the inhabitants of Sumer and Akkad, including princes and governors, greeted Cyrus as a master who brought them back from a living death. All who had been spared damage and disaster revered his very name.

Cyrus's Declaration:
"I am Cyrus, the king of the world, great king, legitimate king (son of Cambyses) whose rule Bel and Nebo loved and whom they wanted as king to please their hearts.
"When I entered Babylon as a friend and established the seat of government in the place of the ruler under jubilation and rejoicing, Marduk, the great lord (induced) the magnanimous inhabitants of Babylon (Din Tir) (to love me) and I daily endeavored to praise him. My numerous troops walked around in Babylon in peace, I did not allow anybody to terrorize (any of the people) of the country of Sumer and Akkad. I strove for peace in Babylon (Ka Dingir ra) and in all his (other) sacred cities. As to the inhabitants of Babylon (who) against the will of the gods (had/were I abolished) the corvee (yoke) which was against their (social standing). I brought relief to their dilapidated housing, putting an end to their main complaints. Marduk, the great lord, was well pleased with my deeds and sent friendly blessing to myself, Cyrus, the King, who reveres him, to Cambyses, my son, as well as to all my troops, and we all (praised) his great (name) joyously, standing before him in peace I returned to (these) sacred cities on the other side of the Tigris, the sanctuaries of which have been ruins for a long time, the images which (used) to live therein and established for them permanent sanctuaries. I (also) gathered all their (former) inhabitants and returned (to them) their habitations. Furthermore, I resettled upon the command of Marduk, the great lord, all the gods of Sumer and Akkad who Nabonidus has brought to Babylon (su sa na) to the anger of the lord of the gods unharmed in their chapels, the places which make them happy.
May all the gods whom I have resettled in their sacred cities ask Bel and Nebo daily for a long life (six lines destroyed) and always with good words remember my good deeds that Babylonians incessantly cherished me because I resettled them in comfortable habitations I endeavored to strengthen the fortification of Imgur-Enlil and the great fortification of the City of Babylon the side brick wall by the city's trench which the former king (had built and had not finished). This was finished around (the city), that none of the former kings, despite the labor of their yoked people, had not accomplished. I rebuilt and completed with tar and brick and installed large gates entrances were built by cedar wood covered with brass and copper pivot I strengthened all the gates I saw inscribed the name of my predecessor, King Ashurbanipal."
On this historical turning point, by order of Cyrus, all the captive nationalities held as slaves for generations in Babylon were freed and the return to their homeland was financed. Among the liberated captives were 50,000 Jews held in Babylon for three generations whose return toward the rebuilding of their temple in Palestine, a policy that was followed by Darius and his successors. Some of the liberated Jews were invited to and did settle in Persia. Because of such a generous act, Cyrus has been anointed in the Bible. He is the only gentile in the Bible, who has been titled Messiah, an is mentioned explicitly as the Lord's shepherd and his anointed (Messiah). Other references to Cyrus are attested in Isaiah 45:4 where Cyrus is called by name and given a title of honor; he is also called to rebuild the God's city and free His people (Is. 45:13) and is chosen, called and brought successful by God (Is. 48:14-15).
What took place after the victory in Babylon was contrary to the standard of the time. Based on the inscriptions of the neighboring countries (Assyrians, Babylonians), it was customary to destroy the vanquished cities, level houses and temples, massacre the people or enslave the population, replace them with snakes, wolves and even carry away the soil to make the land barren. But here, peace and liberty replaced the massacre and slavery, and construction substituted for destruction. After Cyrus, his son Cambyses ruled for eight years (530BC to 522 BC) and captured Egypt, and as a sign of respect toward their culture and religion, he prostrated himself before the goddess, Meith and paid homage to Apis, the Egyptian totem (Bull).
After Cambyses, Darius took over the throne and ruled form 522BC to 486BC. From 518BC to 515BC he established peace and tranquility in Egypt and also paid homage to their totem, Apis. Darius, in his inscriptions, expresses faith in the commands of Ahuramazda. He declares "Whoever worships Ahuramazda, shall receive happiness in life and after death." He calls Elamites faithless, and because they did not worship Ahuramazda, yet he does not pressure them to change faith. Darius exhorts his successors "thou shalt be king thereafter, protect yourself from the lies and punish the liar and deceitful."
He entreats God's grace for the protection of Persia against rancor, enemy, famine and the lie. At times he alludes to other gods that may either indicate the old Aryan gods who still had strong followings or the gods of other nations under his rule, for the display of reverence toward their religions.
