Islamic Republic regime stealing its citizens emails and hacks their websites and blogs.

This regime is known for not just stealing the money of the people but also is trying to steal the emails and also hacks their blog or websites. In recent weeks Islamic Republic regime in Iran has intensified its illegal activities hacking the emails and blogs or websites of its citizens. It was just a couple of weeks ago that some websites belong to anti Ahmadinejad policies reported that ,Government of Ahmadinejad has stolen the money from many banks and the banks asked the Government to return the money it took quietly at night. Stealing is part of this regime and the entire Government officials are so corrupt that, in one instance they did steal $ 3 billion dollar from Iranian banks, meaning money from Iranian people's accounts in those banks.
And now regime is busy stealing the web and email identity of its citizens. and the story goes on and on........

May 1,2012 and the labour / workers situation in Iran under Islamic Republic regime. Major Political parties and organizations and Labour / workers unions opposed to regime policies are illegal and regime is calling them as " counter revolutionaries " !

In Celebration of the International Labour Day
In Solidarity with Iranian Workers
Labour activists in Iran are under suppression
Labour rights violations by the government and the employers, trade unions are prohibited
Despite the significant rise in Iran’s oil incomes, there has been a continuous deterioration of the
workers’, employees’ and retired persons’ standard of living both in the public and the private sector.
In fact, not only workers and employees have been deprived of their share of the 100 billions of
annual oil incomes, but the real income of workers is less than a few years ago. The number of
workers whose incomes have been pushed below the line of poverty has been increased to 70 %. On
the other hand, the rich maintaining close relations to the government are given even more from the
country’s wealth. These developments are opposed to President Ahmadinejad’s slogans who began
his presidency approximately 7 years ago with the promise to distribute the oil incomes onto the
Iranian households.
According to the current Iranian legislation, workers’ incomes must be adapted to the inflation rate
and the costs of living each year. But during the last three decades, this regulation has either been
neglected or realised in a way insufficient to compensate the real inflation rate and the price
increases. For example, the inflation rate according to the Iranian Institute for Statistics is 26,5 %,
according to the Research Committee of the Iranian Parliament 30 %, and according to economic
experts about 50 %, but, like previous years, in this year the wages were increased by only 18 %. Even
after this increase the Iranian workers’ wages are about one third of the level which has been
defined as the line of poverty. In the previous months alone, about 40 % of the workers’ real income
has vanished due to the sharp decline of the Iranian currency’s exchange rate. As a result, more and
more workers have been forced into poverty. As a fact, the distribution of wealth in Iran which has
been unequal before is now even more unjust in spite of the increase in the country’s national
income.
One year and a half ago, with the ratification of the new law on the so-called ”Goal-oriented”
subsidies, the reduction of public subsidies financed by the oil incomes began. Following the
execution of this law and the deregulation of the prices, inflation and price increases made a leap
upwards, causing a crisis in the industrial and agricultural sectors. This law produced more poverty
and injustice through shortening the ordinary people’s share of oil incomes which were realised
through the subsidies.
Unemployment Rising
In addition to more poverty, a deeper class divide and social injustice, unemployment which has a
decisive impact on increasing poverty has been increasing continuously and sharply during the whole
presidency of Ahmadinejad compared to the years before. Now, unemployment is one the most
serious problems of the Iranian society. According to the latest official statistics, unemployment is
now between 12,8% and 14,5 %. Some Parliament members estimate unemployment at 25%. But
independent experts who disclaim the government statistics say that unemployment in Iran exceeds
25 %. Unemployment in Iran has been aggravated since last year, when some subsidies were
abolished, fuel prices were multiplied, economic sanctions started, the economic crisis in the
manufacturing industries was amplified and the currency exchange rate fluctuation were
accelerated. Within the past one year, 1,3 million people have lost their jobs and joined the
unemployed. There are signs showing that the unemployment increase is fastening. The government
has proven to be incompetent and lacking any initiative and the necessary well-thought programme
to defy unemployment.
Weakening Labour Legislation and Social Care
Since the current government has come into office, over half of the workers who previously were in
permanent or long-term employment have been forced into limited and short-term engagements.
Many economic and legal rights are reserved for permanently employed workers and do not apply to
those with limited-time contracts. In addition, employers and company managers can lay off
temporary workers every three months without any grounds. In fact, currently 70 % of the workers
employed in the private and public sectors have been excepted from the protection through labour
legislation and lost any professional and social security. Furthermore, legal rights of the workers to
whom labour legislation applies have been virtually lowered to a negligible level because of the
changes made in the labour legislation to turn the latter more employer-friendly. As if all of this has
not been enough, the government has sent a new bill to parliament aimed at the abolition of all
remaining regulation in favour of the working class.
Increased Suppression of Trade Union Activities, Ban on Strikes
Aligned with the aggravated economic crisis, unemployment, hyper-inflation, lagging of wages
behind the prices and anti-labour changes to legislation, workers’ protests and strikes have been
spread to the same extent, although strikes and trade unions are forbidden and the atmosphere of
suppression has been fortified. There have been many attempts by workers and employees to found
trade unions or other labour organisations, leading to a number of trade unions and organisations.
But since the beginning of these activities, their organisers and leaders have been subject to
intensified prosecution and pressure from the security forces and the police. Many of them have
been arrested and sentenced to prison just for taking steps towards the organisation of trade unions.
Some of them have been laid off, others been forced to give up their activities. Currently many of the
activists and leaders of trade unions as well as representatives of teachers’ organisations are kept in
prison, although international labour federations, human rights organisations and the International
Labour Organisation have protested against these illegal imprisonments. Some of them have been
sentenced to death only because of their trade union activities, including Abdorreza Ghanbari, a
teacher and university lecturer. Four other members of the teachers’ union are in prison since years:
Ali Poursoleimani, Mohammad Davari, Abdollah Momeni and Rasoul Bodaghi. Reza Shahabi and Ali
Nejati are still in prison despite of their critical health conditions. Ebrahim Madadi, vice president of
Tehran Public Transport Workers Organisation, is in prison since three years. Mansour Osanlou who,
afters years in prison, was released a few months ago due to his deteriorated health and
international pressure, is virtually under house arrest and close surveillance. During the last months,
one leader of the Free Workers Union of Iran, one leader of the Centre for Defending Workers Rights
as well as the organisers of protests and unions in Kurdistan and Azerbaijan have be arrested. While
the suppression and prosecution against workers organisations have become an inseparable part of
regime’s policy, many organisations of employers have been founded under state protection and are
organising their activities without any obstacles. Some of them are enjoying various forms of state
protection. But workers and employees whose rights and achievements are under heavy attacks by
the government and the employers, workers who have been forced into poverty, are deprived of
their right to organise. The Iranian worker’s demand towards the international trade unions and
labour parties, human rights organisations and other political and social bodies is to use all
appropriate forms to impose pressure on the Iranian government in order that the professional
rights of Iranian workers are recognised, trade union activists are released from prison and workers
are allowed to take part in trade union activities and improve their rights and the economic and
social conditions of their lives. Especially, those parties and governments who claim to defend justice
and equality while maintaining close trade relations to the Iranian government and being silent on
the suppression of workers movements in Iran, should condemn the repressive policies of the Iranian
regime and defend the rights of the Iranian workers in order to prove their claims.

Iran: Ailing Revolutionary Icon to Be Jailed

For Immediate Release

Iran: Ailing Revolutionary Icon to Be Jailed
Opposition Leader Among Dozens of Dissidents Sentenced for Exercising Rights

(New York, April 27, 2012) – An 80-year-old activist who was prominent in Iran’s Islamic revolution has been ordered to surrender to serve an eight-year prison sentence, Human Rights Watch said today. Ebrahim Yazdi, a former leader of the Freedom Movement party, was convicted in December 2011 on charges solely relating to the exercise of his rights to freedom of association and speech. He suffers from both cancer and a heart condition.

On April 16, 2012, Evin prison authorities informed Yazdi through his bail bondsman that he had 20 days to surrender to serve the sentence, imposed on December 11, 2011, by a revolutionary court in Tehran on national security charges. Authorities had arrested Yazdi three times after the disputed 2009 presidential election and held him in pretrial detention for months, which included solitary confinement. They later released him for medical treatment.

“Yazdi’s prosecution is emblematic of the government’s utter lack of tolerance toward any opposition,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “Authorities haven’t provided any evidence that Yazdi, one of the country’s most prominent political leaders, has done anything but run an opposition party and speak out against the government – actions that should never subject him to prosecution in Iran or anywhere else.”

Human Rights Watch called on Iran’s judiciary to quash Yazdi’s sentence and immediately free all members of his Freedom Movement party who are serving prison terms because of their exercise of their right to freedom of association, or of other political rights.

Yazdi was one of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s closest confidantes during the country’s Islamic revolution and accompanied him during his triumphant return to Tehran in February 1979. Yazdi briefly served as deputy prime minister and foreign minister, and was one of the earliest members of the Islamic Revolutionary Council set up by Khomeini to run Iran’s internal affairs after the revolution and prior to the establishment of a permanent government. He was one of the earliest members of the Freedom Movement party, which was founded by former Prime Minister Mehdi Bazargan and several others in 1961.

Yazdi’s conviction in Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court was on charges including “assembly and collusion against national security,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “establishing and leading the Freedom Movement party.” The court also barred him from participating in any political activities for five years.

Yazdi refused to acknowledge the validity of the charges against him and did not offer a defense in court, his son told Human Rights Watch. Yazdi’s son said that authorities had summoned his father to prison despite earlier assurances to his father’s lawyer, Mohammad Ali-Dadkhah, that the judiciary had not yet reached a final ruling on the case. Yazdi’s family believes that the appellate court affirmed the lower court’s ruling in recent days, but had not properly informed Yazdi or his lawyer of the decision.

The Freedom Movement party, of which Yazdi was secretary-general, has been increasingly critical of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Security and intelligence forces intensified their targeting of the party and its members following the 2009 presidential election by summoning and arresting several of its members, including Yazdi. As a result of mounting pressures, the party decided to suspend its activities. In March 2011, simultaneous with his release from jail on bail, the authorities announced that Yazdi was stepping down as secretary-general of the party. According to his son, authorities forced Yazdi to do so under extreme pressure.

According to information received by Human Rights Watch, five Freedom Movement members are currently serving prison terms. They are Amir Khorram, a central committee member serving a six-year sentence; Emad Bahavar, head of the youth branch, serving a 10-year sentence; Mohsen Mohagheghi, central committee member, serving a four-year sentence; Mohammad Farid Taheri-Ghazvini, serving a three-year sentence; and Mohammad Tavassoli, head of the political office, currently in pretrial detention. Yazdi’s son told Human Rights Watch that Tavassoli is in poor health and his family is worried about his continued detention under isolation and harsh conditions.

In addition to Yadzi, seven other members of the party are free on bail and are either awaiting appeal verdicts or orders to surrender for prison terms. They are Mehdi Motamedi-Mehr, head of the educational committee, sentenced to five years’ imprisonment; Solmaz Alimoradi, education committee member, sentenced to 18 months in prison; Sara Tavassoli, sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment; Hashem Sabaghian; Mohammad Bani-Asadi; Khosro Ghashghaei; and Mahmoud Naimpour.

Yazdi is one of several dozen opposition members and political activists who have been tried, convicted, and sentenced, or detained by Iranian authorities since the 2009 presidential election. The Interior Ministry’s Article 10 Commission, which registers and oversees the activities of political parties, has brought a series of complaints against opposition parties, many of which are aligned with Iran’s reformist movement, in an effort to disband them. On September 27, 2010, for example, the general prosecutor and judiciary spokesman announced a court order dissolving the reformist Islamic Iran Participation Front and the Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution.

Iran’s current political parties law allows the Interior Ministry and the judiciary great discretion to regulate the activities of registered parties. Article 14 of the law requires groups applying for permits to “directly express their allegiance to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” and article 16 allows officials to revoke a party’s registration if members engage in actions that “damag[e] national unity,” “damag[e] Islamic principles and the fundamentals of the Islamic Republic,” or promote “anti-Islamic propaganda.” The law requires, however, that courts issue final verdicts regarding registration disputes pursuant to article 168 of the Iranian Constitution, which calls for all political and press offenses to be tried by a jury.

Human Rights Watch is not aware of any cases, including Yazdi’s, which have been tried in the presence of juries.

Authorities have held the opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, as well as Mehdi Karroubi, under house arrest since they called for demonstrations in February 2011 in support of the wide-scale protests following the 2009 election. On April 24, 2012, the reformist and anti-government website Kalame.com reported that for more than two weeks “the families of Mr. Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard have absolutely no information regarding their condition.”

“An eight-year prison term may easily amount to a sentence to die in prison, given Yazdi’s age and health,” Whitson said.

Ahmadinejad Phenomenon and The Government of Chaos!

Picture: Ahmadinejad and Said Mortazavi

No one knows what to do with Ahmadinejad .Not only he feels that he is above the parliament and law ,he even shows that he is above Khamenei the leader of the Islamic Republic ( his 11 days absent from attending cabinet meeting on dispute with Khamenei about the resignation of the Minister of Information) .During seven out of eight years of his presidency his Government had more than $600 billion income just from oil revenue and no one knows what he did with the money.According to news, the Central Bank reserve went down to zero and it even seems negative and inflation rose to its highest level. His Government owes billions of Tuman to different institution ( like metro ) as well as ministries. During his Government, corruption went up and in one instance according to report and investigations 3000 billion Tuman ( $1 = 2000 Tuman)vanished from the banks. He is a bully and all around him are thugs . One of such is the former judge Said Mortazavi the suspected muderer of Iranian -Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi and Kahrizak prison case file where some political prisoners were murdered under his direct order. Recently Ahmadinejad nominated Mortazavi to a new post as the head of social security organization and this angered alot of MP's . dispute over Ahmadinejad continues as the MP's called him to the parliament for questiening over and over now.No one knows who lead Ahmadinejad but one thing is clear the captain is driving the country to more disaster.....The situation is mixed up......

Peter the great invaded Iran in 330 B.c. and burned Persepolis the palace of the King and established its reign for 13 years and then his followers run Persia up until year 68 B.C. when again the Persian took control of their country."

Charter of the Rights of Nations Inscribed on a clay cylinder in cuneiform discovered in 1879 now in The British Museum, London.

Cyrus Charter of Human Rights Cylinder First Charter of Human Rights.
The charter of Cyrus the Great, a baked-clay Aryan language (Old Persian) cuneiform cylinder, was discovered in 1878 in excavation of the site of Babylon. In it, Cyrus the Great described his human treatment of the inhabitants of Babylonia after its conquest by the Iranians.
The document has been hailed as the first charter of human rights, and in 1971 the United Nations was published translation of it in all the official U.N. languages. "May Ahura Mazda protect this land, this nation, from rancor, from foes, from falsehood, and from drought". Selected from the book "The Eternal Land".
I am Cyrus. King of the world. When I entered Babylon... I did not allow anyone to terrorise the land... I kept in view the needs of Babylon and all its sanctuaries to promote their well-being... I put an end to their misfortune.
From The First Charter of the Rights of Nations
Cyrus, The Great, 539 B.C. Founder of The First Persian Empire.

In the Charter, after introducing himself and mentioning the names of his father, first, second, and third ancestors, Cyrus says that he is the monarch of Iran, Babylon, and the four continents: I am Kourosh (Cyrus), King of the world, great king, mighty king, king of Babylon, king of the land of Sumer and Akkad, king of the four quarters, son of Camboujiyah (Cambyases), great king, king of Anshan, grandson of Kourosh (Cyrus), great king, king of Anshan, descendant of Chaish-Pesh (Teispes), great king, king of Anshan, progeny of an unending royal line, whose rule Bel and Nabu cherish, whose kingship they desire for their hearts, pleasure. When I well-disposed, entered Babylon, I set up a seat of domination in the royal palace amidst jubilation and rejoicing. Marduk the great god, caused the big-hearted inhabitations of Babylon to .................. me, I sought daily to worship him.
He continues:
At my deeds Marduk, the great lord, rejoiced and to me, Kourosh (Cyrus), the king who worshipped him, and to Camboujiyah (Cambyases), my son, the offspring of (my) loins, and to all my troops he graciously gave his blessing, and in good sprit before him we glorified exceedingly his high divinity. All the kings who sat in throne rooms, throughout the four quarters, from the Upper to the Lower Sea, those who dwelt in ..................., all the kings of the West Country, who dwelt in tents, brought me their heavy tribute and kissed my feet in Babylon. From ... to the cities of Ashur, Susa, Agade and Eshnuna, the cities of Zamban, Meurnu, Der as far as the region of the land of Gutium, the holy cities beyond the Tigris whose sanctuaries had been in ruins over a long period, the gods whose abode is in the midst of them, I returned to their places and housed them in lasting abodes. I gathered together all their inhabitations and restored (to them) their dwellings. The gods of Sumer and Akkad whom Nabounids had, to the anger of the lord of the gods, brought into Babylon. I, at the bidding of Marduk, the great lord, made to dwell in peace in their habitations, delightful abodes. May all the gods whom I have placed within their sanctuaries address a daily prayer in my favour before Bel and Nabu, that my days may be long, and may they say to Marduk my lord, "May Kourosh (Cyrus) the King, who reveres thee, and Camboujiyah (Cambyases) his son ..."
And:
Now that I put the crown of kingdom of Iran, Babylon, and the nations of the four directions on the head with the help of (Ahura) Mazda, I announce that I will respect the traditions, customs and religions of the nations of my empire and never let any of my governors and subordinates look down on or insult them until I am alive. From now on, till (Ahura) Mazda grants me the kingdom favor, I will impose my monarchy on no nation. Each is free to accept it , and if any one of them rejects it , I never resolve on war to reign. Until I am the king of Iran, Babylon, and the nations of the four directions, I never let anyone oppress any others, and if it occurs , I will take his or her right back and penalize the oppressor. And until I am the monarch, I will never let anyone take possession of movable and landed properties of the others by force or without compensation. Until I am alive, I prevent unpaid, forced labor. To day, I announce that everyone is free to choose a religion. People are free to live in all regions and take up a job provided that they never violate other's rights. No one could be penalized for his or her relatives' faults. I prevent slavery and my governors and subordinates are obliged to prohibit exchanging men and women as slaves within their own ruling domains. Such a traditions should be exterminated the world over. I implore to (Ahura) Mazda to make me succeed in fulfilling my obligations to the nations of Iran (Persia), Babylon, and the ones of the four directions.

Iranian Translator and Poet Arrested !

PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee (WiPC) 7 February 2012 RAN 08/12

PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee is seriously concerned about the arrest of literary translator and poet Mohammad Soleimani Nia, who has been held without charge since 10 January 2012. The reason for his detention is not known. PEN is seeking further information about his well-being and any charges against him as a matter of urgency, and it calls for his immediate and unconditional release if held solely for the peaceful exercise of his right to freedom of expression as guaranteed by Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is a signatory.

According to PEN’s information, Mohammad Soleimani Nia, aged 39, was detained on 10 January 2012 after responding to a summons to report to the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. After arriving at court, he was accompanied by security guards to his home in Karaj, outside Tehran, which he shares with his parents. The guards searched the house and seized computer equipment and documents before taking him away.
According to a source close to his family, Soleimani Nia has been under pressure since late November 2011, when he was questioned by security and intelligence officers and banned from leaving Iran. According to Iranian American writer Firoozeh Dumas http://www.theworld.org/2012/01/iran-funny-farsi-translator/, who worked closely with Soleimani Nia on the translation of her book Funny in Farsi, he had been developing a website similar to ‘LinkedIn’ designed to help Iranians find work. No information about his whereabouts or any charges againsthim have been made known, although his family fear that he is being held in solitary confinement in Tehran’s Evin prison, notorious for its harsh conditions. There are mounting concerns for his well -being.
The arrest of Mohammad Soleimani Nia comes during a renewed crackdown on independent and dissenting voices ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 2012. At least ten journalists have been arrested in January 2012, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists http://www.cpj.org/2012/02/ahead-of-iran-elections-crackdown-on-press-continu.php (CPJ).

Labor activist Reza Shahabi, who has been in prison since his 12 June 2010 arrest, embarked on a dry hunger strike on 22 November in protest of the Evin Prison authorities’ lack of medical treatment and attention to his illness.
A close relative of Shahabi’s told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that his family has heard no news from him since he began his hunger strike, and one of his children, his 13-year-old son, had to be taken to the hospital when he heard about his father’s hunger strike due to heart stress.
He also told the Campaign that if Shahabi did not receive immediate medical attention his left side might become paralyzed.
Shahabi is a trade unionist and a board member of Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company. He was arrested on 12 June 2010. Shahabi has embarked on several hunger strikes to protest the unlawful nature of his case proceedings. After spending several months in solitary confinement, Shahabi was transferred to a 12-person cell inside Evin Prison’s Ward 209.
“Ten days ago, Reza Shahabi was transferred to the hospital due to having pain in his back and neck, and doctors told him after an MRI that some of the vertebra in his neck have deteriorated and are in need of surgery followed by six months of complete rest, and that without hospitalization his left side might become paralyzed,” the source told the Campaign in a telephone interview. “But unfortunately, no action has been taken for him yet. In his last contact with us, Reza told us that he would start his dry hunger strike on 22 November.”
The source also told the Campaign that authorities have not permitted Shahabi’s family to see him, despite multiple attempts:
“They only said, ‘he doesn’t have any problems.’ They even said that the reason he went to the hospital ten days ago was because he had a cold, not because of his back or for the MRI. But Reza himself told us that he was sent there for an MRI and even told us what the doctor had said. Would they send anyone to the hospital for a simple cold?! When his family went to the prison yesterday [25 November], they were told that in order to put their minds at ease, he would be given permission today to contact his home, but unfortunately there hasn’t been any contact with us yet.”
“Reza Shahabi’s case file has been in a limbo for the past 19 months. His last court session was in June, about six months ago, but there is no court ruling yet. Now he is sick and they are inattentive to him. Reza was forced to go on hunger strike,” he added.

Incarcerated War Veteran Mohammad Reza Motamednia Vows to Continue Hunger Strike Until Mir Hossein Mousavi is Freed .

April 9th, 2012 – [Kaleme] In a statement from Evin prison and protesting against the injustices, cruelty, cowardice, continued pressure and the unfair treatment by the ruling government of Iran of those who were martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and in recognition, respect and gratitude towards Iran’s national and religious beliefs, Mohammad Reza Motamednia announced that he will begin a wet hunger strike as of Monday April 9th, 2012 and until such time that the Prime Minister of the Imam [Khomeini] [Mir Hossein Mousavi] is released from illegal house arrest.
In his statement issued from Evin prison Motamednia former adviser to the Chief of Staff, one of the supporters of the eight year holy war against Iraq and special representative to Bahonar and Mir Hossein Mousavi in the mining industry emphasized: “During the next 45 days, in the event that my demands are not met, I will only consume water from sunset until early morning prayer”
It is worth mentioning that Motamednia also launched a hunger strike in February of last year but put an end to that hunger strike when his demands were finally met. Motamednia was arrested during the aftermath of the rigged presidential elections on June 29th, 2009 and held in solitary confinement for two months prior to being released on bail. He was later sentenced to one year prison by the 26th branch of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Pir Abassi on charges of propaganda against the regime and transferred to Evin prison on August 12th, 2011 in order to begin serving his prison sentence.
The full content of Motamednia’s statement provided to Kaleme is as follows:
In the name of God the Merciful,
“When Allah made a covenant with those who were given the Book: ‘You shall explain it for the people and you shall not conceal it,’ they cast it behind their backs and sold it for a paltry gain. How evil is what they buy!” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:187)
More than a year has passed since the house arrest of the innocent and oppressed leaders of the Green movement. During this time the political pressure and oppression has increased to such a degree that even the cries for justices by freedom seeking Iranian patriots have been suppressed with threats, incarceration, beatings and harsh and unfair prison sentences by the judiciary. Alas, throughout it all he who is responsible for all the oppression has sat idly while the rights of a nation protected under the Constitution , a constitution that embodies the ideals of the Islamic Revolution of February 1979 and is based on the fortitude and courage of a brave and oppressed nation and the martyrs of our land have been ignored. He [who is responsible] seeks to deprive our nation of their sovereign rights to such a degree that today the idea of freedom of thought and expression and any form of political activity has been criminalized, resulting in heavy, unfair and unjust sentences designed to limit any form of activity and silence an entire nation.
To this end, I Mohmmad Reza Motamednia, one of the sons of the Islamic Revolution of our beloved land, in objection to all this cruelty and cowardice and undue pressure on the memory of the martyrs of the Islamic Republic, vow to stand true to the religious and cultural beliefs of our nation, launching a hunger strike on Monday April 9th 2012, placing myself in the hands of God, until such time that the former prime minister to the Imam Khomeini, Mir Hossein Mousavi’s house arrest has been lifted and this beloved and honorable son of the Islamic Revolution, Ario Barzan, Sattar Khan, Bagher Khan, and other historically renowned martyrs such as Hemat and Bakeri, his wife Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi have been released.
During the next 45 days, in the event that my demands are not met, I will only consume water from sunset until early morning prayer.

Journalist Reyhaneh Tabatabaie sentenced to one year in prison

GVF — Iranian journalist Reyhaneh Tabatabaie has been sentenced to a year in prison, according to reports.
On Monday, opposition website Kaleme reported that Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court had sentenced Tabatabaie, a journalist for the reformist Shargh newspaper, to a year in prison for her alleged role in “weakening the pillars of the Islamic Republic” and “propaganda against the state.”
According to the verdict Tabatabaie had advocated free elections and called for the abolition of the Guardian Council’s vetting power, reforms within the Council itself, press freedom, free parties, the release of “rioters and seditionists,” and curbing the military’s involvement in political and economic activities. The ruling claimed she had been influenced by the “deviant” ideas of imprisoned reformist Mostafa Tajzadeh.
Tabatabaie’s other “offences” included the publication of news about political prisoners arrested following the disputed 2009 presidential election, participating in memorial services held for those slain during the post-election crackdowns, lighting candles for them on Vali Asr Avenue, and taking part in sit-ins in front of Evin Prison in solidarity with the families of political prisoners. All of this reportedly constituted “propaganda against the state.”
Tabatabaie can appeal the court’s decision.
The journalist was initially arrested by the Revolutionary Guards on 12 December 2010. She spent the next 36 days in solitary confinement in Evin Prison’s ward 2A.
She has worked with the Irane Farda magazine, the Sina news agency, and reformist newspapers such as Kaleme Sabz, Bahar and Fahikhtegan. She is currently a political correspondent for Shargh daily and a member of its editorial board.
Tabatabaie was informed of her jail term during the Nowruz holidays. Judge Moghiseh, notorious for handing down harsh rulings in cases involving dissident figures, presided over her trial. In April 2011, the European Union imposed a visa ban and asset freeze on Moghiseh for the “long prison sentences” he had issued “during unfair trials for social, political activists and journalists and several death sentences for protesters and social and political activists.”
